I've gradually tuned out from the NBA since the Reggie Miller Pacer teams. But I'm wondering how people who still consider themselves fans, having some emotional attachment, view the current games and system. I think they are doing the right thing for their business in playing some form of schedule, but it seems to be more of an exhibition to me, with nothing like the usual rooting interest for fans. But as I said, my interest is low anyway. On a ten scale, my interest is usually 0.5 in the regular season, rising during the playoffs to maybe 3 for the finals. My interest in the current games is around 0.1.
Actual NBA fans: where is your interest level?

I love basketball, don’t care for the NBA. So, 0.0.

Would not go quite that low...Interest definitely down this year, a fraction of the usual interest. And that is not high.
My normal interest in attending regular season is based on whether I can get some comped seats. Wherever I am, home or road. It's a good show with a good crowd most games. But it's a high ticket price and the good seats are hard to get and you feel robbed.
On TV I'd watch "my" local team occasionally and watch the my "old" team from early days, the Celts, occasionally, and the small ball Warriors occasionally but rarely watch a whole game or stay up late to do so.
Playoffs are different. Might pay to watch the Pacers in a playoff game in a competitive series, and would probably watch a few TV games.
Cannot quantify the interest, probably higher than you guys, but certainly not like the days when the Pacers were a class act in the ABA (sort of an oxymoron), or when the NBA had about a dozen teams and the playoffs were blood sport competitive.

My peak interest was definitely the Magic Lakers vs Bird Celtics era.
Kareem, Worthy, Cooper, Rambis, Scott etc
Parish, McHale, Ainge, DJ, Walton etc
Had a lot of fun watching those.

Had a lot of fun watching those. I loved the Celtics teams of several eras. First NBA I watched was the Bill Russel era Celts. Cousy, Sharman, Russel, Sanders, and Heinsohn, Frank Ramsey off the bench and later the Jones boys. And a HOF enforcer in Jim Loscutoff. About 6-5, maybe 220. More like a hockey player you send in to fight.
So few teams in the NBA that you knew all the players almost.

Cut my teeth on the bird teams, Idolized Jordan.. Quit watching all together mid Lebron... Current interest level 0.1 with that .1 percent coming from Zion. I watched maybe three minutes of pelicans game last night saw Zion dunk turned it off
I will watch hours of college basketball team does not matter

Apparently the initial games were a ratings flop....as I suspected.
One piece of advice for the NBA: People who want to have left wing politics shoved down their throat have a ton of options these days. That market has been fully saturated this whole summer. On the other hand, the market for world class athletic contests is starving. Just a thought.

I watched maybe three minutes of pelicans game last night saw Zion dunk turned it off I will watch hours of college basketball team does not matter Jordan, Larry Bird, LeBron and the superstars who elevates everyone on the court have always created some beautiful basketball , and have more to do with winning but the true freak of nature like Zion or Shaq or Wilt Chamberlain is something you want to watch. But you are right, maybe a quarter or half a game is all you really want.
For most of the regular season it is hard to watch a whole game, it's an exhibition. Then once in a while there is maybe a real rivalry match up with something more than just a win on the line. Lakers-Celtics, Pacers-Bulls that one year, those games are real games.
Live games are good theater because of the crowd and company you are with, but it's really too pricey.

I went to the pacers last year for the BSU thing. It was a cool experience they do a good job of getting fans engaged. We were ready to go at halftime though(kids included)the actual game was pretty boring.. We had a nice time but never would have went if it was not tied to BSU and discounted

Seems like most folks here lost interest in the NBA long before any politics entered the picture. Curious as to what turned people off.
For me, it was the arbitrary nature of the officiating (at least during the years when I was paying attention, maybe it's not that way anymore). I'm sure an NBA fan would tell me I just wasn't sophisticated enough to understand the nuances of the rules. Whatever it was, it certainly took away from my enjoyment of the game.
I also kept getting the feeling that the first three quarters just really didn't matter. In the end, it was going to be close in the fourth. Didn't seem worth watching a whole game when the first three quarters really didn't mean anything.

The regular season is a grind for the players. It's just beyond human capacity to play with intensity throughout an entire NBA season. This has a very noticeable effect on the tone of the games and it's just dull and boring.
Wonder what would happen if they reduced the minutes of the game and the number of games during the season? Of course there would be less tickets to sell, but maybe that would be offset by the increased fan interest due to increased intensity per possession?
My interest had fallen pretty low, but would probably have been revived if the Pacers ever contended at something close to a championship level again. However, now the NBA has become a full-on political advocacy group, they can go fuck themselves.

Quite a while ago, the NBA decided they wanted to market themselves to a hip-hop, urban audience.
That’s when I lost interest.

I think you're right there, which is probably why most of the posters on this board are no longer fans. But I doubt the NBA is mourning the lose of our particular demographic. The last time I was actually in an NBA arena (probably a decade ago), the atmosphere was kinda fun, as Rob mentioned, but the game was blah until late when the players actually seemed to turn up the heat a little. I'd agree with the General about the season length. Actually, I think all professional sports seasons would benefit from being shaved by about 25%.

I will say this and I do not know why.. Maybe its just tradition for me or the thought Im going to see something awesome but I have never missed the three point shoot out or DUnk Contest since the 80's... Thats saying a lot because they have been awful for the last 20 years.. The last one I remember going wow was Vince Carter
