I have no problems with a patch and I do not see how it hurts anything.. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and while we will never all agree on everything lets keep it civil.. Yes.

I have no problems with a patch and I do not see how it hurts anything.. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and while we will never all agree on everything lets keep it civil.. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on their own time. Wearing a Ball State jersey during a football game is on Ball State time. This should not be allowed. It/they may be speaking out about something others don’t agree with. Also, what things will they not allow? Who’s the judge over what’s right and what is wrong. A group of citizens wanted to paint Black Lives Matter on the streets here in town. Our lawyer pointed out that if the city did that they would have no right to oppose anything someone wanted to paint - he’s right. Of course, the politically correct crowd would make sure it passed their test or they would shame someone out of their livelihood and possibly even their job. Again, I have fought for the rights of all citizens in my private and public life - ALL people have the right to Life, Liberty, and the PURSUIT of Happiness.

So they can speak freely but only as long as they say what everyone agrees with?
Should that be our message to them?
As far as Ball State time goes, as a university giving them a chance to express opinion is part of being a university, doesn't mean we endorse the opinion. Only that we want them to care about important issues and value their opinion
These small patches are a very small part of the game. No big deal.

Isn't that the message being taught?

I do think they have to keep it a social cause and not political. That's cute.

Isn't that the message being taught? It's more in this case what they see their role models in sports are saying and others in society. Professors have enough trouble influencing academic opinion. You overrate their influence.

People having strong political opinions is not new. How many athletes have passed though BSU without needing to broadcast their particular personal opinions on their very uniforms? What's new is the self-righteousness that causes certain people these days to believe their particular opinions have to be shoved down everyone's throat in all situations at all times and nobody ever deserves a break from it....ever.

I think the university, at this point in time, is probably 100% in support of these messages.
So when some of you get upset at the athletes for doing something the university probably endorses, I think you're getting upset at the wrong people.

This is not a new thing we have worn breast cancer patches, We wear patches for fallen team members. We wore patches for 911. This is a small patch if a kid wants to put BLM or a some other quote its not going to hurt anything and honestly if we as a school said no we are not going to allow it. The backlash from the players would be a distraction. I do not agree with a lot of things but this is not the battle to take on

Just asking for a clarification here: The NCAA will allow not only a small patch, but the replacement of the player's name on the jersey, which would be significantly larger and more visible.
Or has BSU decided they aren't going to allow the name switch?

Me dropping my commitment to Ball State won’t hurt either.

You know as well As I do that your going to miss being at the games and over what a patch maybe a saying on the back of a jersey. I get your point as well and while Im not a fan of this either I get why its being done. This year has been fucked up for everyone a patch or saying on a jersey is really the last thing Im worrying about

That’s the same thought process that has brought us to this point . So sad. I see why so many stay away from these pages.

Just out of curiosity, if an athlete, who happens to be a practicing Christian, wears a patch of a cross on the jersey front and on the back "Jesus Saves" in the name area will the NCAA (aka Nike Controlled Athletic Ass-hats) allow that? Or suppose the name area bears something such as "Stop Abortion", will that be allowed?
