The question is WHY was he fired? The "release" stated only that he was "relieved of his duties." That's it. No thanks for his contributions, etc. He was given a 3 year extension before the start of the season. They were damn good on offense. You have to wonder what happened internally. There are similar discussions of his dismissal on NC State message boards with some suggesting the defense was the problem and others saying it was the offense, and so on and so forth; it appears possibly the north side of Muncie mafia, affectionately referenced a week or so ago, also exists in Raleigh, they drew sticks and Canada got the short one. Here is an excerpt posted earlier today at 'Wolfpack in the House' message board (FYI the DD reference=Dave Doeren, Head Coach): "OK, I have a little bit of information, but it is a bit vague. Apparently DD was not happy with the development of Jacoby this year. Also there was apparently a discussion after the bowl game as to why Samuals only got 3 touches, which happened to result in 53 yards and two TD's. So DD apparently discussed a coaching staff shake up and wanted to bring in a QB coach and take that off of Canada, apparently Canada did not like that either. This does suck because we not long ago extended Canada's contracts owe will owe him a bit of money. So the fact that Canada seemed to be shopping his name rubbed some the wrong way within the athletic department as well."

So if that's not just smokescreen we aren't even close to having a new coach and Faulkner is merely a candidate.

It might not be Faulkner, but it's definitely a smoke screen.

If there's no decision yet, Sandy is at least working from a very short list. If he wants the hire made within two weeks, there are definitely "finalists" at this point.

Official visits with recruits will be interesting if they dont have a coach hired.

Keep in mind that the last search we had Lembo as the guy (which it was) and the athletic department said no hire had been made. Twenty four hours later they were forced to confirm. So not everything that the mainstream media runs with about the search is going to be anything more than what BSU wants the message to be. Food for thought.

From football scoop at about 11
Ball State: Per source, New Orleans Saints quarterbacks coach Mike Neu is the leading candidate for the job and if all goes well with the University President, could be announced as the next head coach as early as tomorrow.

Mike Neu would be great for BSU! I'm 100% behind this move.
He should be able to bring a in a great DC with his contacts.

Let's hold hands and pray for this one! Neu is Sean Payton's qb coach, he was head coach in the arena league-- offense is his thing. Riley Neal would prosper.

Payton looks to be out in New Orleans so that means Neu would likely be looking for work..Should we sing Hymns

With the connections he has he'd be able to put together a really solid staff. There are lots of assistants to position coaches and ops/quality control guys who might be interested

Have to agree that if it's Neu it seems like the smartest possible hire and EXACTLY what the program needs...fingers crossed that this plays out the right way!
