I guess we may as well stand down on this thing for awhile. Nothing is getting done for awhile. Ummmm, what? Do you know something we don't? "Sources say" it could be done this week. I think Sandy even set a 2 week goal - not a lot of time IMO. For awhile means not in the next few days and maybe not this week rather than the more optimistic timeline football scoop mentioned. No done deals apparently. We just don't move quickly at Bsu. Hopefully the recruits won't lose patience.

It HAS to be a money thing. Neu would have to have been making really good money to be a QB coach in the pros. I was about to guess that position coaches in the NFL probably don't make nearly what D1 head coaches make, regardless of school. I figured QB coaches might clear 250-300K, somewhere along those lines. Then I googled it. Sean Payton (by way of example), made over 1M per year as the Cowboy's QB coach...and that was 10 years ago. Yikes.

I'm gonna say he would not be involved to this level of interest if he didn't truly want the job. The question becomes, how willing is Bsu willing to do what it takes to get him, or will they simply go to the cheaper option? Also involved will be negotiations for a staff budget. This also will serve as a referendum on just how committed/interested in the football program Sandy is.

A low ball choice could be lack of commitment but there is some limit. 500k for Lembo was a pretty big deal. Above average in MAC. And he had had good years.
400-500k would be a good amount to pay. Would not expect more.

500k was already laid out for Lembo next year so Id guess they could keep that number the same if they had too. If it ends up being someone like Faulkner Id think 350-375 would be more likely

Well let's hope Sandy doesn't screw this up.... Why always assume someone will screw things up. Why not hope he can pull it off. He's only got so much money to deal with for the staff unless you know of a hidden treasure chest somewhere. A lot of this hinges on desire for the job. I'm sure Mike could find some more money elsewhere. Hopefully Mike will have enough money to find some quality coordinators.

Sandy has handled searches before, I'm sure he'll get this one done just fine, I'm just wary based on the baffling decision to not have a football banquet, plus some other things I've heard regarding Sandy's "support" of football.

The appearance of this is certainly something that presents a problem for Mark Sandy. I doubt it was an "easy call." So when he goes this way, I am inclined to think there were both pluses and minuses in the picture. We can easily see the minus side.
Maybe we'll never know everything that went into the decision. I doubt the AD intends to or wants to signal commitment or lack of it. If you are AD at a school with this many problems supporting a good football program, you don't go out of your way to create more controversy and there are often no slam dunk decisions. We would all like a different decision in many ways, but don't know all the factors, I suppose.
Exploring that line of thought, I suppose having a banquet at Michigan where Brady comes back and where it is an event that draws a 1000 people, many rabid supporters of the success of the program, may make more sense than having one here that is probably going to be a smaller and less positive event, one where Pete Lembo was not such a beloved coach and apparently did not want to be here or have any longer term connection, and one where there was not a settled future.
In any case, whether this is a massive screw up or not, he's probably right if what he is thinking about is that the new hire is the more important thing to get right. Having assistants host the event before a small number of parents and fans might have very limited upside, some down which is offset by more important focus on the future.

If Sandy had a lick of sense he could have delayed the banquet and used it to help introduce the new coach and thank the players for all the work they put in. If promoted correctly they could have made money on it. Many would have liked to attend just to get a feeling on the new coach, staff, and the direction he plans to take the team next season.

Well, maybe, but a season banquet is usually a review of the previous season and handing out awards. I don't think that an event designed to look back at the past, is a good venue to introduce the future.

Well, in that case I hope Peter enjoys his going away gift.
