If BSU spent exactly the same money on the program, BUT started absolutely refusing to accept excuses for mediocrity, the difference would be like night and day. Sounds so easy. I gotta wonder why the MAC doesn't have 9 or 10 teams that are not "mediocre" and winning championships every year.
The evidence is that all other things equal, those programs in any conference which are highly successful seem to be spending more over time to be successful over time than their "unsuccessful and mediocre" peers.
That is true across college basketball and football programs.

I gotta wonder how any BSU faculty member could write a sentence that indecipherable.

Well there have been 7 different schools that have won MAC championships in the 21 year Buckley/Thompson/Taylor/Whitford era, and 9 that have made the championship game. So, the mac DOES in fact have 9 teams doing better than BSU since 2000. It IS fairly easy to do better. BSU is an outlier in failure. So THERE, jackass.
Doesn't seem to me that paying Whitford ten times more than he is making now would lead to any more success. The problem is that he is the coach. The further problem is that BSU continues to employ Whitfords, and Taylors and Buckleys for many years after they demonstrate an inability to compete for championships with the better MAC schools. BSU has utterly wasted around 11 or 12 of the last 21 years in continuing to employ coaches who failed in their ample opportunities to demonstrate championship-level horsepower. BSU chose to be satisfied with the lame-ass excuses so readily thought up and offered by people like yourself.

I don't understand why he is trying to provide a defense. It's weak.

I don't know why Botts doesn't apply for the open assistant coaching position at Murray State.

It appears Botts tweet was about Demarius Jacobs committing to BSU. Shooting guard transfer from St. Louis. Meh numbers, but maybe he'll prosper for us. Looks like he was a 3 star out of HS but didn't do much at St. Louis--better as a soph. than as a junior. We need guys who can shoot it so hopefully he'll help us.

So, the mac DOES in fact have 9 teams doing better than BSU since 2000. Wait a minute. We currently have maybe 3 or 4 schools who are doing clearly better, all better funded.
Longer term, how many of those 7 schools (or 9) out of the 12+ MAC schools were funded better than BSU over the period in which they were getting to championship games and winning?
If you are arguing for night and day improvement while being outspent and proposing big improvement spending the same amount of money as we have, how does this past record show that is possible?
It comes closer to show the opposite.
BSU has been funding sports in the bottom half of the conference for those 21 years.
Of the 12+ schools in the MAC over that time we are regularly average or below in spending on athletics, average or middling in basketball at best during that time. In other words "mediocre." The record shows you get what you pay for generally.
I have long advocated it made sense for us to pay reasonably well and that it would probably pay for itself in ticket revenue and other benefits to BSU. I have argued that, including arguments with AD's and Presidents, since Hunsaker was hired. At that time the decision was to use basketball as a profit center in sports. While our administration at one time had more ability to pay and win then, and didn't really cash in on opportunity, ended up losing Ray, today it may not now be able to do so.

I don't understand why he is trying to provide a defense. It's weak. I am not defending BSU policy over time in investment in coaching. I am challenging the facile statement made that we could be MUCH better consistently while spending the same amount on the Program. That is just not realistic.
If you want to be good, you are not making it easy by trying to run a Program on the cheap side.

He averages 3 field goal attempts a game. I wouldn't count on him as a shooter.

You must enjoydoing that that, especially with the number of rash shoot from the hip posts you make that end up hitting your foot. You have to enjoy hitting the target sometime!
