Woodson will be a figure head. He will surround himself with quality assistants. He will be a great PR guy for the University and will appease the old Knight regime. Mike is a smart guy and will make sure he gets the right guys to support him. The NBA pedigree will help him in recruiting as well as his tenure as a coach. Fellas, the game has changed and you need someone who can relate to the kid who has NBA aspirations. I will be shocked if Jackson-Davis leaves IU now. Indiana has all the money in the world and Woodson will get plenty of help to make sure this works. I see Fife coming back and maybe Micheal Lewis who is an assistant on Mick Cronins staff at UCLA.

Woodson has contacted Larry Brown about being a non-recruiting assistant on the staff.
I'm not sure I see Fife coming back. He's Associate Head Coach as MSU and that'd be a real hard job to walk away from without assurances that you'd be in line to be the next head coach at IU.

Whitford was Associate Head Coach at Arizona, that title isn't a big deal anymore.

Interesting hire, the more I think about it.
Good: *Quasi Sherman Plan in that they didn't simply try to outbid everyone for the candidates with a the most obvious, conventional qualifications. *Using his NBA background as a draw for top level recruits. This is clearly being emphasized in their pub.
Bad: *I can't believe there was any need for a 6 year deal. By no means is he a slam dunk, assured success, so why put yourself right back in danger of another buy out?
Questions: *Not clear what the Matta thing is all about. *Will he want to butt kiss and otherwise "show love" to spoiled, entitled 16-year olds? Don't believe you can succeed without that. His name, and the Knight connection, will have great cachet with in-state recruits in the 55-80 age range...otherwise not of much help. *Will Adidas work for him, as Nike does so effectively for selected schools, to get around the recruiting rules?

I think it's a big difference being AHC to someone in their 40's who may be there for 3 more decades, and someone in their 60's.

The point is Associate Head Coach doesn't necessarily mean coach in waiting. There is zero guarantee Fife will be the next head coach at MSU. In fact I would bet against it.

Fife is one of two Associate Head Coaches at Michigan State and the other has been there longer. Not sure what that all means but I don't think title alone sets Fife up as Izzo's replacement.

Better job, but not really what I expected. Have to look at the money probably.
