Just curious to how many on this board have contacted the AD with concerns about Whitford? I've gone higher than the AD. Unfortunately no one in the administration has the balls/stomach/caring to remove Whitford and renovate the basketball program and give it a real shot to be a shining diamond again.

Unfortunately no one in the administration has the balls/stomach/caring to remove Whitford and renovate the basketball program and give it a real shot to be a shining diamond again. This is the reason I'm not too upset at KJ. Most of us would be content to lose next year as long as Whitford is not extended. KJ has one more year, he doesn't have the time to let Whitford's lame duck year play out. I'm not a fan of the intra-conference transfer, but Akron is a championship contender and maybe the only championship contender that he got interest from. I can't fault him for wanting to win. I wish we wanted to win.

Look back at my posts on KJ. He's what I expected from day 1. MAC starter who if he played D would be a key part of a good team. Only a star if he greatly improved shooting...As good as I thought Coleman and Ish could be, filling in for those losses and the solid effort and play of Hazen are our problems next year. None of that Matters... What about losing him to akron and the optics of that Optics count when a lot of people are watching and when it involves integrity and reputation of the University. Or alarms influential alumni, legislators, or other powers. I doubt KJ even moves the needle in the sports news. I'm more interested in how this kind of thing is going to change college basketball and that is more likely the story. I'm in between wishing him well and hoping he finds the grass only looks greener elsewhere on that story.

Being "content to lose" is a necessary skill for ANY continuing support for Ball State basketball, isn't it? If you didn't have that skill, you would either be gone from here, or just hanging around to jeer at the situation, like me.

I agree it's not "good." But I don't think it makes BSU seem that bad. The optics for me is that he wasn't able to cash in on his best season and go back to a bigger conference. Akron, at least on paper, isn't that good next year. LCJ says he's going pro. Their next leading returning scorer averages 12 points, and it just goes down from there. Groce has signed 3 and is nabbing transfers and has more available spots than BSU the last I checked. They'll always be competitive, but this is not a guaranteed or even favored trip to the dance.

Sag at least you acknowledged the not good thats a start. You kinda made my point for me though. You say Akron will not be as good that may be true I don't know.. What does that say about the current state of the BALL STATE program. You know the culture, the process etc etc. If our culture and trusting the process were all true like we have been told 1000 times then Ish Jarron and KJ would have been bought in and ready to come back and win the MAC. Gunn needed to go and if we had then added Cochran to go with the above we would be on to something. None of that happened though because the culture and the process are bullshit its all just a sham

I think that a lot of people on here are having fun with the culture comments and making it into whatever they want to pile on. In my opinion, Ish and Coleman are understandable transfers in this day in age in college basketball. They both went to bigger conferences-if only marginal in Ish's case. He was shooting for higher. Like you said Gunn is understandable too. Maybe KJ was trying to save face, maybe he needed a change of scenery, maybe he hates the coach and the university. I have no idea. His defense was fun to watch and his galloping slashing and springy layups were also fun to watch. But whatever, man. Next man up.

I agree next man up but I disagree on the culture and the process we did not make that up. Whit did and he has mentioned it in every interview for years now. Maybe at some point it was true but it's not anymore.

No I know he talks about culture, but people are choosing to mis/interpret what he said to pile on. Good defense, competitiveness, and a desire to always get better are the things I've heard him say about culture. Not don't try to take advantage of NCAA rules to get exposure for your future. But that's what it is right now. You can still get lucky with majorly under-recruited Jason Prestons, or really small, great guards, or second chance guys, but mid-majors are in deep shit right now. So while I hear the thguys on here who are just frustrated as fuck about not winning, and would like to see that myself, I guess I want to be able to root for the guys that want to be at BSU and who play hard. And there have been plenty. I'm assuming Whitford will be fired eventually, but the same challenges will face the next guy.
