Tons of speculation going on but I talked with a guy who has had some pretty good info that ended up being correct today. He said he has heard that the MAC might be considering going to 14. Targets WKU and MTSU then have some division realignment.

Targets WKU and MTSU then have some division realignment. They do sort of fit. Stretches the footprint a little, but clearly mid major schools without much chance to be in a major conference. Competitive FB but support other sports.
Like most MAC schools not much TV market and not much reason to expect to have a budget to support FBS football longer term.
What were you thinking about in conference realignment?

MAC should try to go to 16.

MAC should try to go to 16. In fact adding James Madison and Illinois State from the FCS wouldn't be a bad idea.

The realignment he stated did not make sense to me but going from memory it would be north and south instead of easy and west. Something like this
South would be Bsu wku mtsu Miami Akron Kent ohio

South would be Bsu wku mtsu Miami Akron Kent ohio Akron, Kent are South?
East-West makes as much or more sense on geography. But, as you say, it doesn't really have to make sense.
The question is whether it is financially sound long term. This many not hurt anything is about the best thing I can say there. Finances are looking bad either way... I certainly don't see it adding to the bottom line.

According to him yes and that's the part I thought did not make sense but not sure how else you could do it if it's north south

He really doesn't consider finances in the article.
The schools likely need a new conference and the MAC is likely good for them. The factors he cited don't make it clear how it is a gain for the MAC.

Western Kentucky, yes. Marshal can just twist in the wind as far as I am concerned.

"Both schools have shown a willingness to spend money on athletics and upgrade athletic facilities when it makes sense to do so. With the Conference-USA hanging by a thread, the MAC has a unique opportunity to add valuable programs to its conference and bolster its future."
The gigantic, salient, elephant-in-the-room fact, that the writer manages to avoid mentioning, is that when it comes to adding or not adding schools to the MAC, one of the two would be a total financial disaster that has to be covered by student fees and the other is a somewhat worse financial disaster that has to be covered by student fees.....I'm just not sure which is which.

Western Kentucky, yes. Marshal can just twist in the wind as far as I am concerned. Both according to the writer are "valuable" primarily on the grounds of likely persistence in pursuit of being a non major conference program committed to FBS. Blood brothers.
Perversely Marshall as a school with such a strong commitment to FB probably has more appeal to the MAC.
