I believe Beth has thought a lot about a replacement and will have a good short list of candidates. She also has a pretty good track record of Coaching hires. And just because you have a search firm does not mean you can’t have a few of your own candidates! Yes she has, did she use a search firm for those hires? I would hope she has candidates of her own but if she goes with her choice instead of one of the ones the firm recommends does that rub them the wrong way.

If sparks is really getting big 10 offers he would be dumb to come back to the MAC in any case That's just silly. What is your argument that playing mop up minutes in ANY big ten school is *smarter* then being featured at Ball State? How do you know he will be playing "mop up minutes" ? You are however correct he will be featured at Ball State where he will spend four full seasons playing out of position at the post.

Known variable at BSU vs unknown anywhere else. Maybe 13.5 ppg at BSU translates perfectly in the Big Ten... But then again maybe not. Right now, I can't imagine a single Big Ten 4/5 that Sparks would have started in front of and I'm one of his biggest fanboys. Currently, I project that he would provide depth on the bench in a relief role.

If sparks is really getting big 10 offers he would be dumb to come back to the MAC in any case Why would you say that? Do you honestly believe that the players in the MAC are dumb or they had no options? That's just silly. What is your argument that playing mop up minutes in ANY big ten school is *smarter* then being featured at Ball State? I've never understood that mentality. It's like walking around on (BSU) campus with an IU tee shirt. Bullshit!

It will always be her choice, and also the President if she wants to go over budget. The search firm really won't care one way or the other. If a search firm gives her an option she had not considered and she likes it, that's great. IF she uses a search firm.
If she does not use a search firm at all because she has been planning this, that can be fine, but this is an important hire worth spending a little to make sure you didn't miss anything.

We are using a search firm I hear but you can be sure that Beth has a list of her own; think about it, she has been at Butler and UCONN as well as being very engaged with the NCAA.
And as I said before, look at her other Coaching hires thus far...pretty darn good!!
I do hope we get a Coach soon to lessen the likelihood of key player departures

He would be stupid to go to Indiana or something and average 15 minutes a game when he can play here, leave a legacy, and lead our team for the next three years.

Sellers and Jihad have both officially hit the transfer portal. It's a total rebuild now.

What is your argument that playing mop up minutes in ANY big ten school is *smarter* then being featured at Ball State? I've never understood that mentality. It's like walking around on (BSU) campus with an IU tee shirt. Here’s why - how many BSU players in the last 20 years have been drafted in the NBA? How many MAC players? How many NCAA tournament appearances has the MAC had vs the Big 10? If Sparks has designs of playing in the NBA, he HAS to go to a power 5 if offered. Bigger budgets, more exposure, better coaching, better facilities, better teammates, better competition. Now, he may go and find he isn’t good enough. Thats a risk. But if he stays, what’s the ceiling? He gets to be a big star playing in front of 2500 on ESPN + and if all the stars align maybe we win a MAC tourney and we get to be a 13 seed once. The fact is we all love ball state basketball, but the MAC is a low mid major conference and BSU is in the bottom half of that. It’s a no brained for him to go to IU if offered.

I forgot to add - the possibility of NIL money if he leaves and becomes a star. If he’s a star at BSU what’s he going to do? I mean I guess Luke Browns NIL deal with the pig farmer is a start….but….

I hope Sparks will stay but the allure, which is real, to play at the highest level in front of sold out arenas on national TV and go to the NCAA every year (not IU) is hard to pass up. He has done everything right by all accounts so far in his collegiate walk so why not bet on yourself again and give it a shot?
