Ball State has nine non-conference games scheduled during the 2022-23 season, including three during a multiple-team even in the Bahamas, according to documents obtained by The Star Press.

Last year, Ball State played 11 non-conference games and in 19 of its scheduled 20 Mid-American Conference regular season games.

The 2022 Nassau Championship will include a maximum of eight Division I teams and will be played from Nov. 25-27, 2022 at Baha Mar in Nassau, Bahamas. According to the agreement, the pairings for the tournament will be announced no later than Oct. 1, 2022.

In addition, Ball State will play in-state opponent Evansville the next three seasons. The 2022 contest is set for Saturday, Dec. 10 at Worthen Arena at a time to be determined. The two teams will play in Evansville during the 2023-24 season and again in Muncie during the 2024-25 season.

The Cardinals' non-conference schedule will include several teams from last season. In addition to its game against Illinois State, Ball State is set to travel to Indiana State (Nov. 12), Omaha (Nov. 16) and Eastern Illinois (Dec. 7), hosting Georgia Southern on Dec. 21.

Ball State men's basketball 2022-23 non-conference schedule

Here's a look at Ball State's non-conference schedule for the 2022-23 season (so far):

Nov. 12 — at Indiana State

Nov. 16 — at Omaha

Nov. 25-27— vs. TBD (Nassau Championship)

Dec. 7 — at Eastern Illinois

Dec. 10 — vs. Evansville

Dec. 17 — vs. Illinois State (Indy Classic)

Dec. 21 — vs. Georgia Southern

Season Ticket information may be out fairly soon.

I have to think we will have a couple more home dates early. Maybe I'm wrong?

But at the least we should have some kind of exhibition game or other low level opponent to start the season before that first road game. It'd be very odd not to have a home game until December 10.

I'd think you'd be correct, at least a couple of more games and hopefully one at home.
It would be a little odd to not open at home until mid-December.

I believe we still owed you a home game that was cancelled during the Covid season. The last series was supposed to be 2 and 2, but ended up with 2 games in Evansville and 1 in Muncie.

I am looking forward to watching Michael Lewis up there. He certainly would have been a favorite here if we had actually moved on from Lickliter in a timely manner. Hopefully the future is bright for both programs, and I hope the series continues for years to come. I have always felt like we should have played more times than we have over the years.

The BSU website shows our first game in the Bahamas as being against Vermont. That's not easing into things at all, although I guess we'll play ISU and Omaha before then.

Also, as many Indiana kids seem to end up playing in Vermont, it could be key for future recruiting.

I don’t love scheduling two lower tier teams like that. I do agree with the idea that the Nassau tournament is going to be pretty tough by mid major standards. But why not schedule IUPUI over one of those teams if you’re worried about the nonconference being too tough

Especially with all of the lower D1 teams we already have on the schedule
