I can’t imagine Martin being able to be near what he was after all the injuries even if they get him cleared and run him back out there. Leadership would still be there but physically, man, I don’t know.

- Trick play was confusing and deflating - That many penalties are inexcusable. Very little discipline - Some (not all) Tennessee fans might not have social security numbers and might not be registered members of society - Pemberton the RB was impressive to these eyes. Twice stiff-armed his way to first downs. - More tight end usage please. - How do you defend an offense like that? You can’t even get a sip of your beer before they are running their next play - No matter the score, the boys did not give up. They say you make your biggest leaps between the first and second games. We really need that to be true.

Yes I think we are going to be ok. the WR were impressive and the guy from Vanderbilt reminds me of the guy from Western who caught everything within 100 yards of him. The O line was going against 335 pounders. Will have a better assessment Sept 10. I never heard of Pemberton need some info on him. Defense played well at times but was worn down. Nick Jones impressed as did others. Without some of their plays it would have been 75-10. Watching Western tonight at 7pm ESPN+or ESPN 2. Central will kill the MAC. Did Akron win?

This game should have been a little closer. The pylon fumble and avoiding that first play pick would have helped. Still a rout, but better. I liked the effort. Playing a superior opponent that plays at that tempo is a really difficult task. How can you prepare for that kind of tempo with a QB who is that good? That's my thinking. If we had been really really sharp, which is hard to expect in a first game, we might have avoided several mistakes and turned around the two plays you mention. A good result then. Maybe covered the spread. And if UT was just not ready maybe it coulda been one of those games we could stay in for a while.
But play after play , the more I watched, UT was ready.
I don"t really see how we could have set up a scout team offense to bring that kind of pace and could not have set up a defense with the same level of athleticism and size. That's why we were 35 pt dogs.

Pemberton redshirt freshman from Chicago. 3 star kid can’t remember what offers he had. Was named Chicagoland player of the year his senior year. He blew up as a senior. He has been behind Barfield but really came on in fall camp and it looks like he may have passed him. Speaking of passed it appears both pemberton and Barfield have passed Marcus

. Tn had the 3rd ranked offense in the country last year no one stopped them. There D just sucked and they could not get out of their own way. They will be a good team until they play the sec west and get smoked

You want one of these rbs to pass jones and equal or challenge Steele but Will jones has proven to be able to make plays. Having 4 good backs is a good thing though

Tenn was definitely a really good, talented team. We could have play the best we could possibly play and still lose by 4 td. Our early decisions put us in a real hole but we kept playing. There were positives to take from this game for sure. We were just totally overwhelmed at the point of attack on both sides of the ball. Couldn’t get any pressure and couldn’t run the ball. Made too many dumb mistakes as the players and Neu mentioned post game. Lots of work to do and lots to clean up but I feel good about our passing game.

Some plusses, a little worse result than we could hope for. Same nagging concerns we started with, except maybe the QB is going to be OK.
Can we call it consensus?

Anyone surprised/disappointed Paddock took all the snaps? I was hoping to see Kelly in the 4th quarter, just to see what he could do.

Starters all needed as many reps as possible to get a sense of what we have. Hopefully a good set of practice days ahead.

Agreed all the snaps the starters could/can get. Paddock looked poised under withering fire.

Paddock has to have the snaps if he’s the guy. Thats our toughest game and he did ok. Not great but ok in his first start
