Well, bummer. We had a chance in this one, just couldn’t hold them down for 4 quarters.

Every time the offense gave us a cushion the defense shit itself. Simple as that.

We ended up in a game where the defense got worn down. WMU is no better than us & from the play of NIU last week & CMU today it appears the division is also completely open to the team that improves. We will be able to play with the other MAC teams we are probably a 500 team in MAC & hopefully can get six wins.

There was a point where we had a lead and again we run steel straight up the gut twice in a row for no gain at this point I knew we were going to lose. Once again we got too conservative too soon. We can’t run when they and the stadium know it’s coming. I get eating clock but it’s literally cost us 4 games the last two seasons

To be honest I thought it would be worse but since it was not it stings more that was a winnable game

Thoughts from the game....
The crowd was pretty embarrassing. Weak showing for the 1st home game. The game went about as I expected. Not much separation between the 2 teams, but the key difference was the OL. We didn’t open up many holes for Steele, while their OLine was dominant in the 4th. Paddock was good, but being short is an issue. Lots of tipped passes. Not a huge fan of Lynch as OC. Way too many drives started the same. Two stuffed runs then a long 3rd down.
Not too disappointed overall. I think we will have a chance in every game. This season could go a lot of different ways.

Not impressed with the passing game, either offensively or defensively.
I'd say changes need to be made offensively now, not later. Just not sure whether it's Paddock or the play calling but very horizontal in nature, went deep only when necessary. Had some big plays but mostly off of short passes. People will be deceived by the yardage total and the coaching staff will be convinced they just need to tweak a few things. I think they're wrong. It's pedestrian offensive play-calling that benefits from some pretty good talent and effort by a few skill position players.
Pass defense terrible. Can't pressure and can't cover. Salopek completed 60% of his passes, and of the 40% he didn't complete probably 75% of those were due to poor passes, not good defense. An accurate passer probably would have completed over 80% of his passes, or at least what Hooker did last week (72%).
Steele good but needs more effective back-ups (can our RBs not catch passes?). Kicker was nice but we won't be altering field position much with our punting.

Pedestrian Play Calling.
I like that.
Neu joined at the hip to those “pedestrians”.
