Maybe. WMU was down 8 midway thru 4th quarter at MSU. But Ga Southern is a team we’d likely face in a bowl game. If we can’t beat them then we’d be very likely to lose any bowl game we’d make. Hoping for a good game when we play and a W!! It’s supposed to be a 50/50 game in an area we recruit. Not supposed to be a gimme, but given our start, a game we really need to win. Yes if we get better game over game. We looked better on offense today than we did against UT but UT dominated us as they should have so hard to actually see what improved. I still think Ga S. will drill us and they’re up on Nebraska at Nebraska by 7 late 3rd Q. Nebraska is awful! I feel confident that 3/4 of the teams in our conference (us included) could be competitive against them.

And the way EMU is playing tonight I don’t think we win that game either. Eastern has been catching up and is now a player in the west Eastern barely beat Eastern Kentucky (who just beat BG) and got smashed by Louisiana Lafayette? I’m not impressed with them. We’re they up big on ULL in this game early or something?

They are all winnable, but we will be underdogs in most.

Just checked and they were up 14-0 a half. That 2nd half must have been complete domination from Louisiana.

Like to see our receivers run deep enough pass patterns to get the first down when catch is made on third down. Such a fundamental thing and yet we often don't do it.

It's like a lot of stuff where we really don't know where the problem is. Is it the receiver who's not running the route deep enough? That's what I'd normally suspect. Or are we intentionally running the route short because we know it's an easy completion, then depending on our receivers to get the 2-3 extra yards. We seem to do it so consistently that I wonder if that's the strategy.

An ongoing problem for years and yesterday it led 5 of 15 on 3rd downs and killed drives. Wmu receivers were always at or past the sticks and we were almost always behind the sticks. We expect our guys to get YAC But they aren’t explosive like that. Plus, wmu dbs can cover and tackle and ours…. Can’t. dumb penalties and missed opportunities continue to plague us.

Wmu wrs can really accelerate after the catch but ours get wrapped up immediately. And Tyler just falls down if the pass isn’t right on his hands in short yardage, as if he’s just not going to get after it. He did that 3 times yesterday— just sorta tripped over his own feet or something. Great TD catch though. He makes those catches. paddock misfired a lot too.

Vantrease did the same thing he did to us and ran in for the touchdown. No we will not beat Ga. Southern. Again a beast of an offensive line will doom us in the 4th quarter. I think we will be ok and competitive the rest of the way. Steele is such a oy to watch knocking others on their ass on his merry way down the field. Did Will Jones get hurt? Nebraska QB not very good and their overall team speed seemed slow and they wilted in the 4th. Nebraska confidence level really low at this point. "We are Marshall" I am sure ND fans and team are sick of hearing that. The Hoosiers were Vandalized in the first half before they woke up. I agree too predictable with our run game. Use Steele more as a decoy or pass more to him or have Barfield also in at the same time. Using more receivers and TE was a refreshing change from last year. Paddock good and not so good. Question: Does the O line not open holes for Steele or Doeas Steele not wait for the holes to open as was mentioned on TV.?

Steele admits he needs to learn to be more patient and let holes develop, but he’s just not wired that way. He just hits up into the line so it’s always going to a bunch of hard two yard runs for him with the occasional break through run. That kind of style is going to get him beat down over time. He’s a horse but the body can only take too much. The other problem with his between the tackles power running is he can’t really run wide so it makes our offense heavily between the tackles and we don’t spread defenses out. Wmu had 8 or 9 in the box all game long because they knew there was zero threat of us running wide. None of the backs we use are speed backs who can get to the boundary. We just too damned one dimensional and predictable. Neu/lynch have got to come up with a better mix of players and plays.

Ga Southern tied at the half@28 with Nebraska. We will lose that game I’m predicting. I started watching after you sent this! They are tough and the fun-belt is having a monster day!! Reminds me of how the MAC used to have monster days!! A must win if we want any chance of a bowl game (to likely play another sun belt team) So true! The MAC is no better than an average FCS conference!!!

Sure we went conservative play calling when we went up in 3Q, but the discussion needs to be primarily focused on the defense. We scored 31. If we let teams run all over us and face teams with an accurate QB, nothing about the offense will matter. I thought our offense was pretty good overall. We should be competitive in most of our remaining games, but have to get better if we are going to get a W.

I was going to rip the d as usual but our d looks no different than most of college football d is just not prioritized at most places

The MAC would be a better than average FCS conference...
Spending more than the average bear, though.
But if we were allowed to be FCS, would we want to stay in the MAC and spend the same amount. Or. Cut spending, use those student fees for something else?

Extemely poor play calling and tired defense. I don't know what the second half time of possession was, but it sure seemed as though our D was on the field for more than the offense. Got so tired of seeing 11 get the ball short of the line to gain and try to create something that it was ridiculous. We had the ball inside our 20 to start a late series and we come out throwing. We get the ball out to the 35 or 40, throwing, and then we decide Steele is our is our best option to get us on downfield.
