Yes, hopefully the culture of excuses and low expectations, as managed by Whitford and abetted by certain members of this board, is a thing of the past.

Perhaps, in today's society, he was deemed to be too disciplined as a coach to fit into their universities.

Another assumption? Could be true, could be he had plenty of interest and liked what he was doing, could be he wasn't interested in jobs available? Could be he liked the route as top assistant at good program, it's a good route to HC jobs. My point is mills asked the questions which would give us grounds to discuss the matter. You blew that off with assumptions about what happened and drew unwarranted negative inference about that assumed set of circumstances.

Yeah, that's probably it. Lewis had LOTS of HC job offers but he just didn't really feel like taking them. I definitely get the impression since he's been here that he's only reluctantly become a head coach now and is really not very excited by the situation. Yeah, that must be it.
Now, back in the real world where intelligent, curious people can freely speculate, based on reasonable assumptions, upon topics which interest them. I have thought myself along the same lines as bsu73. I wonder if maybe Lewis struck search committees as too old school?
This would be a fascinating subject for some illuminating interview questions that a sharp, enterprising Muncie Star Press sports reporter could ask Lewis. BWAAAAAAHHHAHAHHAAAHHHAHHHHAHHAHAHAHHHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAH. Did you catch that? I said "sharp, enterprising Muncie Star Press sports reporter" BWAAAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAH. Oh man, I'm killing me.

I will say, I did not like his answers about scheduling the BIG BOYS. They don’t want to play with us little boys. Arrogant IU attitude. Other than that, I feel comfortable with him.

[ Not sure where you’re getting arrogant Iu attitude. Name teams do not want to play at Worthen. We aren’t good enough right now to be an interesting matchup on their floor either. We can get a couple “money” games but not that many.

That's just fact not attitude. IMO, he should show fight in the scheduling and challenge the bigger programs to play at Ball U.! Not act like we just aren’t good enough for them to play in !Muncie. Challenge the status quo.

Not wanting to play in Worthen is only half the story. Playing on the road for what we can pay them is less than they would make playing at home, even when you take expenses (what they pay another team to come in) into account.
2-for-1 is the best we can hope for, and even then the better teams are afraid of the SOS and NET ranking hit they'll take.
I mean, who really thinks that IU is "scared" to play at Worthen against a mediocre MAC team? That's just silly.

Challenge the status quo. It takes two to tango. cardfan said it right. We can only get the occasional game. A miracle needed to get one in Worthen probably. Good regional games, home and home, should be the goal. Get a tourney spot or money game when you can. That's what we are doing.

Not wanting to play in Worthen is only half the story...who really thinks that IU is "scared" to play at Worthen against a mediocre MAC team? Right. Just no gain for them. Why would they do it? A slight risk of losing, but that is not much factor. 30 years ago, before TV, chance for maybe a big crowd, an appearance in a good recruiting area, no chances for as many intersectional big school dates, then it was a different story.

Challenge the status quo. Fight for the scheduling? Challenge the big name programs to play us at Worthen? That’s just not how it works. They’d laugh at us. And do you think we could afford the price a name program would want to come onto our place? We’d have to give up a whole helluva lot In money, and commitments to play at a “big name” school. Like, get our asses handed to us about 5 years in a row on the road. Lewis mentioned cal state north ridge was a possible to open up at our place. But then we’d have to fly to cali next year in return. He’s looking at the economics and it makes no sense to make that commitment. He pretty much hates having Earlham on the schedule but that’s all they could get for this year and not break the bank. His hands are tied this year but he made it clear he would be working on A better schedule next year and future years.
