Only scanned game via game cast briefly but it appeared to me that it was never close. Lack of enthusiasm I read? That’s not good. I hope Lewis hasn’t already burnt out the team because he thinks he’s Bobby Knight.

I don't put much weight in the argument that Whitford beat up on Greg Lansing coached teams; therefore somehow Lewis is less than Whitford. However, if someone wanted to argue that ISU made a better coaching hire than did BSU, you could do that. Schertz certainly has more of a head coaching resume than does Lewis. But it is early yet ...
I thought the refs let them play quite a bit today and that favored the most aggressive team, which wasn't Ball State.
As much work as we have to do on offense, I think there's a helluva lot of work to do on defense. ISU actually did some similar things to what Earlham did, just with more frequency and success. If we can't stop penetration and keep people out of the paint, we're going to lose a whole lot of games.
I have to believe that Sellers and Windham are going to play better. I believe Bum, Jihad and Cleary can contribute more. It would be nice for someone to step up to be more of an inside presence with Sparks but not sure who that will be, if anyone. Boogie is probably capable of scoring 25 a night, but less reliance on him (which also means fewer turnovers) will likely be better for the team.

Not really sure what you guys expected but this is the same group of guys that could not shoot last year. Yea we added Coleman who did his thing but just like last year when you only have 1 guy hitting shots your not going win. It’s also the same group who turned it over bunch and missed free throws. Also the same group who struggled to close out on three point shooters. You have to let Lewis get his type of players to ultimately play the game he wants. It’s not going to happen this year or maybe even next. If by year three we are still having this convo then we should be really concerned Oh for fuck's sake, not this shit again

We lost Cochran and Thomas who turned the ball over a ton. Led the team in TOs, in fact. They, along with Bum, also shot a bunch of 3s and not at a great percentage. We replace them with more PT from guys like Sellers, Windham, even Jihad, all of whom shot a higher percentage from distance than those 3. Now, I think it's clear that we won't shoot as many 3s under Lewis, but we'd better shoot a better percentage from the field overall and we'd better not commit as many turnovers. I think those are expectations that it's fair to have.

Still played the same guys we played last year minus Coleman. Coleman did his thing and the others did what they do. sparks did not play well, Sellers did nothing until they do we will not beat decent teams.

Bum may have played his way to the bench early in the season Ya think? I mean is a starting guard with 18 minutes and a ZERO stat line a problem?

Last year BSU shot overall FG% dead on NCAA average, Free throws 1.5% better than NCAA average and 3ptrs 2% better than NCAA average.
So let's not get on a bullshit narrative that Lewis inherited a team that can't shoot and needs three years to fix it. Please.

I think there could be confusion on players that we have that can shoot being wide open (many) vs. players who can shoot by creating their own shot off the dribble or through a screen (Coleman and maybe Windham?)

Coleman did his thing and the others did what they do. sparks did not play well, Sellers did nothing until they do we will not beat decent teams. Sparks didn’t play well bc he was guarded well, doubled and tripled team whenever he touched the ball and no one cut to the basket when he was and he didn’t kick it out to a open teammate. The double teaming is good coaching and not passing the ball out is not good coaching.

You have to face reality we have Coleman And sparks who are good. Sellers we hope is good then jacobs who is okish. The rest of our roster are turds you can polish them but then their just shiny turds. We play them meaningful minutes at a good school they would barely get off the bench
