Wow. Maybe Paddock saw the writing on the wall with Kelly. I absolutely hold Paddock the person in very high regard. I don't think he was the right QB for us, but as a person that's a great dude. He had the heart, just not the size and ability. I honestly think he ought to look FCS rather than another MAC school. I want him to get a good shot on a team where the things he can do would be maximized, and where he's not asked to do more than what he's capable of. (and it's not his fault Lynch was his OC)
I hope this encourages Kelly to stay and make it happen. He showed he's got the physical talent, just has to put the whole package together.

I don’t think football has kept any portal kids. But I’m not sure we tried to keep them before.

I am thankful for Paddock’s contributions to Ball State Football. He waited his turn behind Plitt for years before getting his shot. He had some weaknesses as we all have noted, but he did have some great qualities as well. I wish him well and success wherever he goes. I am also excited about the opportunities that this will open up at QB. Kelly probably the favorite, but it should be an intense battle for the job.

Yeah, Mike totally failed by taking the low hanging, good ol boy network fruit with Lynch. Kevin has a long way to go to really run a top offense. One that's balanced and is always on the attack and comes up with different play calls other than running on first and second down had having to throw on third. Gotta reverse tendencies. We miss a guy like Rich Skrosky who ran a great offense under Lembo at BSU. Really mixed it up and liked throwing in the occasional draw play on a long yardage down. (required good execution by oline/QB/RB to sell as a pass first) Our offenses with Wenning and called by Skrosky were really good. When Rich left Lembo we went in the tank. (and who was our OC then? Why, yes, Joey LYNCH) We've been plodders ever since. |
