Gritty but ugly win. Sparks has to be smarter on defense moving forward. A couple of his fouls were him just not thinking and being too aggressive on offensive rebounds or driving to the basket out of control. I thought we might go zone on Norman in the second half but we didn’t. All his shots were off the dribble, not catching and shooting. Thought a matchup zone might prohibit him from getting high ball screens and shooting. He also drove right past us multiple times for layups so we really had no answer. Zone might have taken away drive, but they'd kill us on boards then. And he was too hot not to face guard. Doubt we'll see zone except real emergency. |

I lost it. One of the worst calls I’ve seen. I dont think he even touched the ball. That was right in front of me there was no ball to jihads arm fell off. Also sellers mugged on thecreboubd with 17 seconds left and pushed outvof bounds Our guys fought through it and didn't let it get into their heads like in the past. That's growth. That's toughness. Really proud of them. |

Sparks has got to develop some nuance to his game or he’s not going to get much better than he is. Silly fouls. Just runs people over on offense. Very awkward shot and struggles to finish. He plays his ass off but he’s just really unrefined and teams have figured out how to play him. He’s got to take the next step now.

Defense first in preparation, with emphasis on aggressive D. Full credit to Coach Lewis approach.
Helps to have that offensive talent. Lewis coming with chance to keep those 3 Amigos, plus Coleman landing back here...
Sparks out really hurts offense losing his passing, and Jihad gets more out of that. We couldn't play both long enough against this team.

Lots for the team to look at in the taped recap. Our bigs must NOT be head faked into the air. Free throws have to be a constant concern. With that said, I am amazed at how improved we are. Go Cards!

DN story not as good as some in past, or as well written. "little emotion until late" he says?
Guy just did not seem to understand how physical and intense the effort was most of the game. That we outscored them 20 in paint was no mean accomplishment.
The outside shooting woes were real but they defended well and we worked our ass off for most buckets after first minutes of the game. Wasn't like we casually bricked shots.

Coleman willed us to this win!! Most game they gave him the ball. DJ had to work so hard on D and he was making good decisions. DJ didn't get into lane as well as he has. Credit to WMU defense prep. That took away some Sellers outside game. Good switch up by Lewis to put Sellers on Norman late, let DJ help and recover on his man. |

DN kid must have been watching the Chicago st game last night. Last nights game was emotionally charged from jump and was an intense, physical battle for 40 minutes. Wmu made us work for everything. Fans were into it the whole game and the intensity just rose through out. |

Made the shot. I was as shocked as the Western defender. We are only six deep and we can put Bumb in to safely dribble around with the ball. That’s going to bite us. Especially in the tournament. |

I can remember when it was announced Coleman was returning to Ball State there were many of us concerned whether he could adjust & handle Lewis’ coaching style. I believe he sat a couple of games mid-season at Mizzou for disciplinary reasons. His care-free style of play just didn’t seem like it was going to be a good fit.
Last night’s stat line was truly impressive:
- 22 points
- 8 rebounds
- 7 assists
- 0 turnovers
Wow!! Love the 0 TO’s!!! It’s just a single game, but Coleman appears to be thriving under Coach Lewis.
