Hendriks has been biding his time, waiting for the right moment to explode into dominance. The moment has not yet been ripe.

No more Boogie sucks! Now we have a bunch of unknowns? I wish he left last spring and he was not Lewis player. Transferring 3 times says he is not ever going to be satisfied. I guess we’ll have to wait and see this season.

If so, subtraction by addition in my opinion. Definitely. It's always good to shake things up a little by losing your top remaining player in minutes, scoring, assists, defensive rebounds, steals, FT shooting%, 3pt shooting%, field goals made, free throws made, and three pointers made. Referring to him going to UCF, etc. Lewis had him playing more as a team player than his previous years and transfers. Would have been good for us if he stayed and worked with the system. I just think a coach having him this last year will have his hands full because his tendency is it to be all about him. Could be a detriment.

New additional component to the Sherman Plan: We pimp out the basketball program to some obscenely rich Arab country or person, as several big European soccer clubs have done. Put their name on the jerseys, the arena, the floor, the Ad building… where ever they want. Then they, of course, shovel sick amounts of money into our NIL fund. Big time ncaa tournament success follows. Almost as fun, the other MAC schools are horrified and indignant and set up a hysterical chorus of whining and wailing

Our entire starting five from last November/December is now gone. Jacobs, Sellers, Bumb, Boogie and Sparks. Mickey Pearson and Jihad are your returning "core". I will admit that, at this moment, I can't even remember the names of any of the transfers or freshmen coming in. However, I recollect that when I looked at their college production, or (in the case of freshmen) their other offers, they generally did not impress me as being as good as the players we are losing. Remember that it was said repeatedly by multiple members here that Lewis did not inherit a roster capable of contending for a MAC title. So it logically follows that Lewis needed to UPGRADE the talent level with his recruiting. It looks more like he has done the opposite. This is bad. Very, very bad. Will learn this year if Lewis is the real deal

I will admit that, at this moment, I can't even remember the names of any of the transfers or freshmen coming in... Will learn this year if Lewis is the real deal Lewis proved a lot by exceeding expectations last year. Losing his starting 5, when we might have expected to retain most of them before the portal, at least changes expectations for what we might have expected following that successful first year.
He'll deserve some recognition as the real deal if he exceeds reasonable expectations for this year.
Sherman is now quite accurate in believing it will be hard to expect the newcomers to replace the lost players. Losing 2 senior starters, I'd expect him to overcome and he certainly recruited well enough to do that.

Cardinal fans, stop your needless whining, Boogie was not a team player. Instead focus on Jurica Zagorsak. Lets hope he is the real deal. Till we find he is not we may pretend he is. After all we Cardinal fan are endless hopefuls. Not much to cheer about since 2008. Though we do have a women's NCAA high jump champion we are proud of.

Remember that it was said repeatedly by multiple members here that Lewis did not inherit a roster capable of contending for a MAC title. So it logically follows that Lewis needed to UPGRADE the talent level with his recruiting. It looks more like he has done the opposite. Before the departures via the portal, we had a roster improved sufficiently to contend. Losing two seniors we added Jalin Anderson and Watts who seem very comparable to Jacobs and Bumb. Pearson who was certainly in our top 6 returns. But.
Pearson is not the equal of the 3 transfers lost. He and Jihad along with Doughty and Mason Jones may actually improve our front court depth where Coleman had to defend bigger players too often.
The big problem is that it seems now par for the course for a MAC team to lose one or even two of its best players to the portal, so a good recruiting class now has to bring in at least one or two good starter quality players to offset that, and perhaps one or two very good HS players who would be expected to start in perhaps their second year.
Lewis produced the HS additions in my book. Replacing Sellers, Coleman and Sparks would be an exceptional recruiting class, and I agree we have not done that. Not for this year anyway. There is a decent chance with Jihad, Jones and Doughty to improve up front, a decent chance Anderson can replace one of the lost wing players. Whether we can get enough out of the others or out of the scholarship opened up by Coleman, I doubt, certainly doubtful early in the season.
I do not believe this reflects poorly on Lewis, the losses would mean any team would be rebuilding this year. We should get an idea how good a coach he is with developing and using young players, and holding the team together through some expected times where the youth creates chaos...We'll be a better judge of his recruiting one year from now. He's proven himself a good coach in terms of last year taking a roster that had serious weaknesses and producing a solid season.
Bottom line is that our starters will not be as strong as last year. Pearson and Anderson are our only experienced players. Our bench is unproven. I do believe we potentially have more talent there. As several here have said in their posts, our success is dependent on freshmen and that's a formula for lowering expectations for this year.

No indication he is a savior. He may be equivalent to a good freshman recruit in the mold of others we have.
It will be interesting to see a pretty large contingent of 1st year players who we have not seen play, including two from last year. Interesting, maybe hopeful, but hardly great call for optimism, certainly not in early results.
If I had to name players who were surprise break out star candidates, I really don't see any, maybe in the unknown and surprise category the JUCO transfer and maybe Mason Jones, but nobody we have among the first year players is at all likely to blossom into a top 10 MAC player. No surprise if one or two are candidates for newcomer of the year recognition. We have a lot of candidates who could get PT.

The fact is that, after 1+ year of recruiting/retention efforts by Lewis, the roster is significantly worse than what he inherited from Jim Whitfield. This is a bad, bad indicator. Really bad. Be in denial and make excuses if you must.

Seems if players can not honor their commitment, the schools should be allowed to revoke scholarships each year when the portal is open. Just my feelings. I'm kinda salty. Its hard to get emotionaly invested in a team these days. I miss the days of Majerus. Scholarships are one year contracts, and thus, there is no guarantee of renewal.
