On the flip side, can our new Athletic Director idly sit by and let the athletic program that eats the most money continue to go downhill without a comment or response? Didn't Beth bust Neu's chops one year and force him to make a staff move?

If no move is to be made he’ll say nothing since there are two years left on the contract and you just quietly go on as if nothing is wrong and wait til after next year to either remove or, gulp, extend. If no move is being made I suppose Mitchell could come out and give a generic statement about “saw progress, improvements, we’re close, work still to be done” blah blah blah without saying Neu is forever his guy. If there are ultimatums those will be done privately.

What I would say to Neu is I'd really like to see an offense where when we're first and goal at the 1-yard line, my first thought isn't "well at least it should be a short field goal attempt."

I just remember names like Kevonn Mabon, Jordan Williams and Willie Snead and then I think about the current group at WR. Woof.
I’m starting to change my mind.

I think we vastly underestimate how much of a politician Mike is.

I think we vastly underestimate how much of a politician Mike is. Bingo. I personally do not subscribe at all to the idea that he is a good head coach and just doesn't have the right OC.

I think we vastly underestimate how much of a politician Mike is. Yeah, I think he can be pretty slick, and he can get very emotional and sell.... (but still can't sell really good WR's on his program, so we'll always be able to run the ball while passing will be marginal, no matter who the QB is, and these days that's only gonna get ya 5 wins or so, unless your defense only allows 10 points a game) I think Mitchell is savvy enough to see through all that and I think he definitely want's a better football program, so it comes down to how much sway he has with Mearns to make a move, or how much he can effect some staff changes if he has to keep Mike. I tend to think if there were going to be a big move made we'd be hearing about that possibly today. Tis the season for coaches to get fired/hired so there can't be too much delay if Neu were going to let go. (I don't think he will be, and I'm both glad and mad about that...)

We're going to have another year of Neu. I just don't see them spending the money to buy out 2 years.

I think it's a tough call. My view of the role of the head coach is largely to find the right coordinators. He definitely hasn't done that. But if we had an absolutely killer OC I think we'd be playing this weekend.

I just don't see it happening. 1.3 million reasons are just too many. I'm sure there will be a few changes, there always are. Nothing purposeful. What we can hope is that they continue to improve the Kelly offense. Somehow turn him into a marginal passer. Work on it over the off season, and go into 2024 with a full head of steam. Then Kelly gets knocked out early in the season and we'll have to switch to a Semonza style offense. It's our way.

Then Kelly gets knocked out early in the season and we'll have to switch to a Semonza style offense. It's our way. I just don't think Neu is truly committed to Kelly. I think they've been planning on Semonza all along. They have no idea how to call an offense that makes the highest and best use of Kelly. If they did there'd be a lot more motion/jet sweeps/true rpo stuff mixed with shorter passes/slants to medium range passes. And it would be quicker in pace. Instead we were huddling. I'm sure its because they felt the only real hope of winning games was to slow it down and keep the other team's offense off the field. That totally would have worked, except they left out the part about actually finishing drives and getting the ball in the end zone. Find a way. Get creative. We had the ball 37 minutes against Miami and still found a way to lose by letting the score stay close by not finishing and getting TD's. Kelly and Coop did a lot on their own, especially Kelly. The same basic couple of plays were called with the occasional ridiculous go routes that had no hope. How we totally took Koziol out of the offense is beyond me. DO THINGS TO GET HIM OPEN UNDERNEATH. It was just a total lack of being able to take what Kelly does best and work in more things to open the field up a little. No imagination. They only made a partial adjustment to having Kelly at QB; they failed to dig deeper, find more. They still tried to have some pocket passing along with the rpo and it was clear Kelly was not a drop back pocket passer. So find other ways. Find some routes he could have success with and run those rather than be scatter shot. Sigh. Could have been a 7 win team with a well functioning offense that took advantage of rpo concepts and didn't freeze up and stagnate in the red zone.

No great surprise. He’s got one more year to prove it or he’s done. (How many coaches get 9 years with as poor as the record is?). I like Mike. But at some point enough is enough.
Now, let’s see if he can recruit some good wr in the portal, and rectify the OC situation.
