At our level, a donor has "his guy" and that's who he sponsors and who he wants to be connected with. That's the extent of it. And that's why Rob sees a guy sitting with a player at a basketball game. Singular. (for football, not basketball)

Maybe how you meet them is an issue...if as somebody wanting to help, or as a sugar daddy, or as an employer.

I don't think the NIL donations will necessarily conflict that much with the traditional donations, because it's a different sort of person. NIL donors will be more competitively focused and will be aware that their money very directly helps their favored team win. This would be more in line with my own outlook and I understand this sort of donor. On the other hand, I don't understand the types that have donated for facilities much at all. Who in their right mind would give large sums of money for lavish women's facilities or indoor football practice facilities? And trust the dipshits in the athletic department to use their money intelligently? Personally I think these people have rocks in their heads if they can't think of better uses for their money. I suppose they have their motivations...maybe it's some sort of social or status thing with them?
I think there is a potential pool of NIL donors completely different from the past donors. People who want, say for example, basketball to win, and they don't care about gaining status and don't need their butts kissed, but see that we could really use an upgrade at point guard about now.
Not in a million years would I consider giving any of my own earnings to the f--k up BSU athletics department to use for some purpose that might hopefully, possibly someday might have some indirect positive influence on some recruit's decision to come to BSU. But, as cheap as I am, I would actually consider giving some NIL to a point guard with above-average-MAC potential.

Our big cultivated donors go for their names on buildings and fields rather than anonymously taking part in collectives to pay players who aren’t going to stay even though paying the player leads to more immediate on field/court results.

Nil is just so strange... We have attempted to pay our stars and everyone of these stars both Basketball and football have left for what we assume is bigger money.. Except Koziol, Basheer and our non revenue stars. Cooper once told me he did pretty good here.. Steele was always rumored to be our best paid and he was not part of the feed the bird collective, There is at least one Fball player being paid from a source that is not feed the bird

Interesting that the advertisement being shown to me on this thread is NILCollegeAthleteLitigation.com advertising to college athletes who were denied NIL compensation opportunities between 2016 -2023 to become part of the NCAA NIL Compensation class action lawsuit.

It's creepy how the internet shows you ads based on what it knows about your interests. I'm just seeing bourbon ads on this thread and Rob gets nothing but porn site ads.
