Don't count your wins before they hatch! ;-)

Our offense drives me crazy. Weave out top with two bigs and guys standing in the corners does not make an efficient offense. When a good team defends us I think we will be in trouble. Good to have 7 wins regardless.

New Orleans played MAC level on the defensive side. They turned us over and were able to help on the drive and recover to our shooters in their man defense. The only mistake on defense they made was playing some zone. We torched that and showed it will be hard for anyone to zone us.
Their weakness is not physical, they are strong, quick and aggressive. They shot better than their norm and even hit FTs for about 30 minutes, which made this a good game. They played a very slow game pace building a lead in the first half scoring near the end of the clock, getting long rebounds and took us out of our game. They can beat somebody if they play that way longer.
I give us credit for playing better the second half, or at the least sustaining our intensity and ultimately we were deeper and more skilled. We did not turn it over got better on the boards. As we put on that last run, they finally ran out of gas and could not answer. Still, I was pretty surprised their coach put in the bottom of their bench in the last minute. That reveals a lot about what they thought they could not do, which is make up a deficit quickly. They did play quickly and hit the bucket a few times in the game, but the coach apparently could not see them scoring 10 points in a minute at the end...gave it up.
Davis was a heart breaker for them in the last minutes, dominated the play. Seller and Tyler were effective, which was a good sign. We can play better on offense but should be happy with defense and effort.

I agree Cardfan...we need Tyler out there more as he offers a dimension others don't by being a threat from distance and as well can take it off the dribble.
I'm not counting the W's before they happen but we are better than the pace required to win 15....

Good to have 7 wins regardless. This team prevented us from passing in and back out to those guys in the corner when they were open for an instant. They switched well when we used our screens to try to pop somebody open. When we drove in they helped and then hustled back to recover on the open shooters. New Orleans put out a tremendous amount of effort on the ball, mostly kept us from beating them on the dribble. They made us look worse than the it was for us on offense. Coach Whitford is no doubt not real happy with the offense, but I think would say the same thing. We can improve, but we won't see any harder defense played. I was surprised how "big" they played. We had little or no advantage despite inches and bulk in the post. Their help defense was great.

Agree about defense and effort. Offense obviously needs work.
The pace is good, Kid! (But tougher games are coming and we gotta get better)

With another signature win under our belt, I truly think we will win the MAC conference tournament.

You folks crack me up! You find every little reason to bitch about wins. You need to look at some of the other MAC west team who play 2,3 or 4 non division 1 opponents.. Enjoy the wins instead complaining about who we play. We are never going to have a schedule with numerous high level teams. Are you wishing for failure? I'm elated to see this team prosper and I hope they win more than 15.

Fans acting like fans do on a message board. Whod'a thunk? Can't have that! God forbid we analyze and critique our teams. Some of us want to actually compete in the MAC. That's a different world from the iu kokomos of the world.

In terms of playing time, I think we're going to continue to see 9 players playing a lot (meaning more than 15 mpg). I guess I'd be surprised if that changed once we get into MAC play, just because those nine are pretty close in terms of ability, at least within their position.
Tyler does have aspects to his game that Kiapway doesn't (or hasn't really shown), but I have a hard time saying I favor Jeremie greatly over Francis. If Tyler eventually gets more PT, it wouldn't surprise or disappoint me, but I just kinda see that as an ebb and flow of playing time that will develop as the season continues.
I think it's somewhat interesting that in terms of our guard and wing play, our interchangeable players there each bring something a little different to the floor, which I think might give opposing coaches a bit of a headache in terms of preparation.
I think it's also worth remembering that during that long losing streak last year, there were several games where the Cards didn't play that poorly for about 30-35 minutes, but they really faded down the stretch. That shouldn't happen this year. Obviously, we've displayed some other issues down the stretch of games, but being gassed shouldn't be one of them.

Knowing where the Cards sit right now, if they win 15 and you win the bet, but the team goes something like 5-13 in MAC play, will you be satisifed with the season?

That's a different world from the iu kokomos of the world. Yeah, concentrate on that game. Ignore beating Valpo, which would be a good win in the MAC, and ignore the other games where the wins showed good play. According to Sagarin, we should beat this team at home by 11, we did a little better, meaning we may just be a little better than the current rating with a game we didn't play our best. We play this well we win most of out home games in the MAC and several on the road. And, we could do better than that, so let's stop "wanting to compete," and acting like that can't happen. I like this team, and think we should be positive about it. Let's quit dwelling on the negative, we actually have something to do this year we haven't had for a while, that is to celebrate more good play than bad, and walk out of the arena with a win. I saw our second unit out there today, playing even in a game, a hard game where we might not have won. It had 4 starters from last year and a good freshman. C'mon folks we are better and should give the team credit for it, and look at what can go right more than what can go wrong.

It underscores that there were some good things happening last year, easy to miss, and it's now more than just hope that we can be better. We're seeing evidence of progress. We will win some close ones this year, I am hoping enough close ones to really enjoy conference play. It is looking like we won't have to worry about being 5-13 in conference.
