The Kid, looking at our power packed preseason schedule already has us in the Sweet Sixteen. Coach K is shakin' in his boots at the thought facing the rootin' tootin' Cardinals. Dickie V says,''The March to Fifteen is on BABY!'' Everyone who is anyone is jumpin' on the band wagon. GO CARDS GO

I was able to make the game yesterday and make a live evaluation for the first time.
Moses - I'll start with him because of all the recent chatter. So my pregame evaluation is that Moses looks sort of like Gill...with the beard and all...
I don't know that the in-game evaluation was much more valuable. He didn't do a whole lot to either impress me or discourage me.....
Davis - This was the biggest revelation. I now understand why he plays so much - something I was questioning, as were others. Well, he is going to continue to play a lot and he is, in fact, a key player in his own strange way....But he is athletic, energetic and tough. His energy and toughness help the overall team attitude. Even though he is not nearly the ball-handler you would want at point guard, he is good late in the game with a lead, when the opponent is pressuring and fouling.....I personally like Davis because of his energy and toughness. For me, those trump everything else when it comes to liking or not liking a player, although they don't blind me to the player's shortcomings...If we had a point guard that was a competent point and played a lot but couldn't shoot either, then I don't think we could play Davis much. It would be too much of a liability to have two total non-shooters on the perimeter. However, on the other hand, if we had a point guard who played a lot and COULD shoot, then you could play Davis for the other things he brings.
I completely agree, although I still think you give too much attention to facial hair in player evaluation. Moses was not a big factor in this game, it was hard to get the ball to people against N.O, they really did defend the guy with the ball well and take away passing. He looks good to me in how he has some surprisingly good offensive moves, and seems to catch the ball while moving to the basket pretty well, but he is not a go to scorer inside either, more the face the basket kind of player. That's OK it seems to be what the coach wants in big players. Not surprised you like Davis, but I agree Davis is frustrating in making mistakes and his shot just doesn't look very good outside. Still he really was good in the last few minutes. Coach has said Davis is our best one on one player, he might play more than you think even with a good PG, we have good outside shooting and he might do very well getting isolated and able to take people to the basket. His shooting is sometimes inexplicably bad, but once he gets in the lane he is OK, opponents can't completely sag in next to the basket. I don't see us giving up having a guard who can shoot 3's and a guard to mostly handle the ball and pass, though. We can play very well with a combo guard or two combo guards, Davis and Smith were very effective yesterday teamed with good shooters. I thought Sellers looked better this game, but was well defended, Tyler and Sellers could really be a dynamic duo off the bench if the both get going.

This MAC season could be very interesting. To this point even though there have been some bad losses and impressive wins, no team has really distinguished themselves as a pushover or a world beater.

I truly hope the Cardinals make a lot of noise in the MAC this season.

BSU 0....You are going to be very happy...we are going to make lots of noise....and may even make the MAC tournament final!! OK kid, calm down. That result is extremely unlikely, even though anything could happen, even some stunning reversal of the Ball State Athletics curse. Right now, given the ju-ju of the curse, I will celebrate if the wheels don't fall off somewhere in conference season, we win 8-9 games, and get to a first round game at home.

This MAC season could be very interesting. To this point even though there have been some bad losses and impressive wins, no team has really distinguished themselves as a pushover or a world beater. Toledo and Akron are pretty darn good. I don't see any other teams coming close. Both have NBA caliber big men and superior support at other positions. Boothe and Forsythe are forces of nature. Akrons's Williams is better comming off the bench than most players starting center. I've watched them both on ESPN3 this season including Akron's win at Arkansas.

Yes, the MAC has 3 or 4 good teams, but I am not sure they are world beaters, good enough to play in the bottom half of a major conference maybe. Tp 75-100? Then there are 3-5 more MAC schools about the same, including BSU, those schools would near the bottom feeders in a power conference. Top 150-180? 3 or 4 more are weaker, but not truly awful, could beat the middle teams, especially playing at home. That is good balance, jim is right about that. The weakest MAC teams will probably not beat any of the best teams even at home. OTOH teams like BSU in the middle will potentially have every game pretty competitive, with not so much chance on the road playing the best teams.
