We had several opportunities to put that game away and failed. EMU was not the better team. We Didn't deserve to win given the crucial mistakes we made. Typical sloppy play evident throughout Neu's tenure. I like Mike and want him to succeed, but the lack of attention to detail we've seen just never gets corrected. Every week "we gotta clean things up." Still waiting..... This shows a lack of discipline. Does Neu think Paul Schudel would've put up with that? Of course, I've gotta wonder how hard it its to maintain discipline in these days of instant transfers and NIL.

We've lost games we could have won, got one on the plus side we probably didn't expect to. All in all this is about where we thought we'd be. File under sad but true.
You're pretty much spot on. We were looking at 5-6 and that's about where we're at. "Sad but True" pretty well sums it up, record wise, BUT, it's not just the record it's all the things that this group sees we should be doing that the staff apparently doesn't see or else, as a group, we're just all to stupid to understand why we don't. It just gets frustrating to look so bad and yet think that we should have won except for about three or four different scenarios.

Of course, I've gotta wonder how hard it its to maintain discipline in these days of instant transfers and NIL. And Neu played for him and KNOWS Schudel would not have put up with it. We pretty much run the kind of offense Schudel ran with Neu, but without the discipline and hardnosed play. The oline lacks punch at the point of attack and we make mistakes all over the field = not gonna win more than 4-5 games in today's game. Our d is actually pretty good until they freaking wear down because the O constantly puts them in such horrible situations.

Looks like the Colts have done the right thing. No more Ryan. Will Neu do the same?

The thing is, yes, we were looking at 5-6 wins, with 6 being almost a miracle this year. BUT THEN, we saw our opponents and they pretty much weren't better than us to this point, other than Tenn. obviously, so then you realize damn, we COULD have won 7 this year, even with a meh team full of first time regulars. But we've choked away opportunities for wins vs. WMU, GA Southern, and EMU and here we are and now 6-6 WILL be a miracle. Shit.

We can still do it. Our opponents are no better than our team we will again play games where we get the interception & catch the ball for the td. Just don't give up & don't make mistakes & get penalties. We can win 2 more games. Although I won't go so far as to say we are any better than the average MAC team this season.

Looks like the Colts have done the right thing. No more Ryan. Will Neu do the same? Colts have a fig leaf for Ryan as injured. More important they have an old irascible fan (like many of here) who is very upset and (unlike here) is an owner. Whether it is a good idea or not, that old irascible fan has a say in things... A coach in the NFL doesn't have a lot of choice in this situation.
In college I am not so sure there is a parallel. This is a coaches decision on which his job could ultimately depend after the season, and with 20-20 hindsight, I'd guess Neu has to make the call on what he thinks the best slim chance is that we get to 6 sins.
That really would guarantee his tenure here. I think he is safe for another year no matter which way he goes, that's two counts for staying the course.

I agree that it’s still possible. Every MAC game we’ve been in has been one score. We need to do our best not to shoot ourselves in the foot and hope some key things go our way, but it’s possible. Toledo chokes every year and the eastern teams are all just as unpredictable as we are.

A new AD who likely won't be on the job until long after the season is over isn't going to try to get rid of Neu. Neu's gone only if that decision is dictated to the new AD.

Eastern is going to catch a big break and get Toledo with Daquan Finn or an extremely limited Finn. Who injured his shoulder and was possibly concused on the final play of the game. EMU MAC champs it could happen

I wonder how optimistic he is about next year? He gets 6 wins this year, he probably survives with any decent result next. 4 years bowl eligible at BSU is pretty good. He ends this year with 4 or 5 wins he's back but with a target on his back. Needs a really good year then. Does he really gain enough playing a young QB to bet on that making next year that good?

mike has a couple trump cards yet to be played.
One is he can say look at my roster I have 16 seniors 12 juniors and 80 freshman and sophomores including redshirts.
If shit really gets hot he can also fire Kevin buying another year which if it’s his ass he will do. This would be next years move though
What he can’t do is start Paddock again next year then play the youth card
Paddock gives us the best shot at 6-6 if he changes he concedes the season but changes the narative to just wait till these guys are seniors . He used this one before and then won a Mac championship
