mike has a couple trump cards yet to be played. One is he can say look at my roster I have 16 seniors 12 juniors and 80 freshman and sophomores including redshirts. If shit really gets hot he can also fire Kevin buying another year which if it’s his ass he will do. This would be next years move though What he can’t do is start Paddock again next year then play the youth card Paddock gives us the best shot at 6-6 if he changes he concedes the season but changes the narative to just wait till these guys are seniors . He used this one before and then won a Mac championship If he hangs on to the QB recruit from California who is suppose to be on campus for second semester, does he groom him to start next year over Paddock? Or does he go with Paddock again next season and then choose between the 3 back-up QB's he has now (none of which have every played a snap) and the kid from California for 2024? Assuming they are all here in 2024 which is extremely doubtful.

I know low people in high places who inform me that 1) Neu selects his starting QB and will stick with him thru thick and thin, unless his arm falls off or he uses up his eligibility/and or graduates; 2) he (Neu) demands a member of the Lynch family be an integral part of the offense, regardless of the outcome, or something like that.

have to figure out if the offense is limited because, talent, or, because Lynch, or because combo package. I tend to lean toward Lynch being a big problem in that we're trying to run a Schudel style offense that Bill Sr. ran when Neu was QB, but as we've pointed out many times, we don't have the Oline to do that, and, it's 2022 and that kind of offense is WAY out of vogue. (and Neu could get the ball downfield and had a stud WR in Brian Oliver, and, well, we don't have that now) Steele is a warhorse but he has to get far too much of what he gets on his own. Very few true holes created by the oline. We're very weak at the point of attack. We just kinda stand guys up but don't have any push. And, the design of the plays is just, so vanilla. Steele off tackle left, Steele off tackle right, Paddock some sort of non-functional pass attempt on 3rd, punt. Over and Over, especially in the first half.
I like Paddock, he's a gamer, but, he cannot see over the line and can't throw over the middle because of that. We are unable to use a big portion of the field. We're too damned horizontal again and that relies on making zero mistakes, and we make a ton of mistakes. He sails passes out to the boundary and gets picked, or gets guys killed, or just flat misses. Honestly, other than inserting Kelly and running a totally different offense I don't think a QB change will make much difference. We'll still just run the same predictable crap over and over. Semonza, if he sticks with us, is slightly taller than Paddock, but, he can use his legs and is willing to, and he is accurate and throws a great deep ball. I'll be very disappointed if he's not giving every opportunity to be the starter next year. In fact I kinda hope we've promised him that to get him to stick with us. I know he's not getting recruited more highly because of his size, but his moxie, man. I can't imagine Kelly will be around next year unless they can convince him is future is at WR. He won't ever be a QB for us in the offense we run. It relies too much on timing and staying in the pocket and hitting the first read. Kelly would be more of a get out of the pocket and try to create something and that's just not how New/Lynch roll. It should be, but it's not. I kinda doubt Cobb ever plays for us either. I noticed that a couple of walk on RB's gave up. We only have 6 on the roster now and one is a walkon. We only really use two so I guess it doesn't matter that much, but, my concern is guys are starting to get turned off by how things are going with the offense. Neu could easily lose this team if the D has to continually cover for the offense and grind away and get nothing out of it. Hard choices need to be made with the offense because we just cannot score enough, can't stay on the field enough.

What RB's have left ? I think just a couple of walk ons, but couple that with the scholarship kid who left in the spring and we're pretty light there. Basically right now we're just playing Steele and Pemberton, with some spot carries by Jones. Why we don't work Barfield in is a big question. Will he even stick around?

Based on everything that has been said here the season is not going to get any better. Bad offensive concept, lack of OL talent a short QB and receivers covered of every play etc. The only consistent bright spot is yes the defense but also our two monster tight ends and Steele. We are going to see a lot of 3 and outs for us against Kent which by the 4th quarter everyone on defense will be gassed. If I see one more running QB do another end run for 20 yards against us I will lose my Charley Cardinal Hot dog all over the empty seat in front of me.

Just read where the attendance at the Stanford Arizona State game was around 15,000 in a 50,000 seat stadium. BSU attendance was listed as 15,000 sat. UCLA also having attendance problems at the Rose Bowl which seats about 90,000. UCLA has tarped off part of the Rose Bowl slimming it down to about 50,000. Still UCLA only had about 30,000 or a little less Oct.22. Worthen Arena and our Cardinal tarps come to mind here.

I can't make much out of comparing our best game in season attendance with ASU's though. Other than the obvious that the two worst PAC10 teams were in action.

I thought we had more like 12k there.

No doubt the tailgate was one of the best we've had. And people were there through the game.
