My bet is Bell and Adams will be advised to find programs where they can play. Adams might not physically ever be able to. I think Brown has eliminated himself. Zag, I think there's a few things he could do for us but overall we should be able to recruit over him, so if he wants to stay he's like 13 of 13. He appears to be very much involved with the team and bought in and is a good teammate. Not a bad thing to have, IF you can afford to keep him. So it's probable we're looking at at least 3 open schollies, maybe 4 out of that group. Bashir is probably leaving so there's another. I think everyone else stays and that'll be the core to build around. I'm not going to assume Doughty will be able to contribute much next year but I hope he stays because he's a big dude and based on his games against Bidunga in high school he's fearless and aggressive when he's healthy. If nothing else he could develop into a really solid back up. Someone who can come in and give minutes and put a body on people.
It really feels like the roster could look very different next year. I don't think the team is nearly as fractured as has been speculated, but there's definitely a need to upgrade the talent anyway.

Just have to hope Bashir looks at what happened to Peyton Sparks and says to himself, "not letting that happen to me in my final year."

100% agree cardfan. Doughty was never going to be a real star, but can provide some physical play we haven't had. Jones, Middleton and he will not be freshmen...
Never expected to retain Hendricks, or particularly want to do so. But, he's looking like he can be a rotation player. And, it's part of what is a good thing to have a core, and significantly more depth.
We could lose somebody else we want to keep, but it's not like the losses we had this year. Let's let other MAC teams get a dose of that.
Two newcomers already signed look similar to Middleton, maybe not high impact but add something. Physically able to play.
I don't see players returning needing to make any quantum leap, all are improved over the year, fit together, can be better by continuing on the path they're on.
Improvement at PG, post D still look like priority. Adding a good player to pick up some of Jihad's scoring and improve on his D is a key. With what should be more depth that can make us a contender.

I really liked the attacking mode our guards were in vs. Kent. Attack the basket and 4 things can happen. You get a bucket. You get blocked. You get fouled. You make a bucket AND get fouled. Bottom line, get the ball on the rim. Get action going. Make something happen. Make the opponent defend us. We need Bashir, but him being out opened up the paint for dribble drives and Anderson and Bailey took full advantage. Hill, the juco guard, has an attacking game like that and gets to the rim. He's also good on the boards so I'm hoping our offense is similar next year with more clear outs for drives and less plodding big men dribbling into turnovers and not even getting shots up. Having guards who can hit the 3 but also attack the basket is huge. We don't need to sit at 23 feet and jack up 3's. (although Bailey and Anderson hit some huge ones) Our D was better vs Kent too. Frustrated their guards who like to make plays.
Jones is a beast on D and he's an adept passer on O. Get his offensive game to where he can give you 10-15 pts a game and he's a real difference maker all over the court. He could be a 15/7/4/3/3 guy in the box score every night. We have some pieces. Just need to get an alpha to go with them and some depth that can actually contribute.

I like Jihad and I feel he is the most talented player on our roster, but I think the team plays better when he is out of the line-up. I've felt this way for most of the season, even when we were not playing a team missing it's best player. Tuesday only solidified my feelings. He tries to do too much himself and the team depends on him too much when he is in the game. It has hurt us a lot in some of our losses (that should have been wins) You guys can all disagree but that's my opinion.

In what way is Jones going to score 15 a game? Inside? don't see that. threes? has no history of that. Off the dribble? haven't seen that either. 15 points a game don't happen through wishful thinking, Herman. You have to have some reliable way to put the ball in the basket, or else you average 4.3 ppg in 30 minutes a game....as he currently is.
This roster is not close to being a contender. This roster is, in fact, close to maybe being an MAC 8th seed if things break right and that is the most you can say for it. Last year's roster couldn't contend either, even though it was much more talented than this years. Lewis simply needs to recruit better players than he has thus far had...Whitford's or his own. AND ones who are amenable to his particular way of coaching and communication, if in fact such players actually exist.
As I have said, he needs to hit the portal like a m-----f-----.
Or else start your pre-work on next year's excuses.

True freshman normally play like true freshman. I'm not passing any judgement about what true freshman players can do in the future based on this year. The guys that got playing time, Jones, Middleton, Zagorsak, played like true freshman. I saw potential. They've got a year under their belts now. Lets see how they improve. I won't include Bell in that because he is pure chaos and Joey Brown needs to find another home. Jones is going to find some offense.

Jones is always around the ball, Sherm. He moves well. Once he gets more confident and aggressive on offense he's going to start getting putbacks rather than just clearing the ball back out. He's going to get to the foul line because of that. Bottom line, watching him I truly think he can do some things on offense once he gets better feel for it at the college level. He mostly doesn't score now because, well, he just doesn't try to, not because he's totally inept. He takes like 4 shots a game right now. He didn't average 20 a game in high school by accident. He'll figure it out. It's just a matter of confidence and assertiveness.

Didn't Basheer Jihad average around 2 points per game his frosh year? I can remember the board criticizing him for launching some erratic 3 attempts. Jones' frosh stats are meaningless. I expect him to really work on his shooting mechanics this summer and be ready to contribute more on the offensive end similar to Pearson's offensive development. He's a totally different player than when he got here.

I see him maybe more on the 10 ppg than the 15 ppg, but as I've said before, I love watching the kid put out 114% effort most all the time. Doesn't do all the right things, but does so many good things.

I think Jihad won't make Sparks' mistake because he's not a Big 10 player. Look at his turnovers. I can see a transfer to Akron, Toledo, Duquesne, Missouri Valler, or A10. He says he ants a NBA career and that not at BSU.

He says he ants a NBA career and that not at BSU. If Jihad is not a Big 10 caliber player he certainly is not an NBA player either. Just what makes his potential to play in the NBA better by playing in another mid major conference? Exposure? He's going to have to try out and get invited to go to an NBA training camp and fight for a roster spot regardless of where he plays college basketball. Going to a new team for one year, in a stronger mid major conference, where he is going to have to work his way into a new system and potentially not be "the guy" on that team is only going to hurt his chances of getting an invitation to a training camp. Now the one plus I see for him leaving is that if he goes somewhere where he isn't playing out of position (the kid is not a post player) he may shine brighter, but he won't be "the guy". He plays better when Hendriks is in the post and he doesn't have to be. Our big man depth hasn't allowed that except for limited minutes. Maybe next year that will change. We can only hope. Toledo and Akron? How may guys do they have in the NBA? Akron hasn't had one since 1975. Toledo has Ryan Rollins who is in the G-League at last check.

Just have to hope Bashir looks at what happened to Peyton Sparks and says to himself, "not letting that happen to me in my final year." Yes, those of us who have lived a few years would look at the Sparks situation and learn a lesson there. The reasoning and logic of the typical 18-20 is a bit different though. Bashir could look at Sparks and Coleman’s experiences and think “That won’t happen to me”. I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks

Unfortunately kids that age are going to look at the money first. They just want to get paid. If they don't play, well, they got paid.

Jihad will leave for money. He like most college basketball players think they are better than they are. He won't be back at BSU. I don't see a B10 school wanting him but if Coleman & Sparks got over $50,000 he is worth as much. Toledo might give him some money but it won't be huge. An A10 school or maybe a DePaul will give him enough money. I don't think any college players will learn from former teammates experiences because they all think their better.
