I love how ISU moves the ball around. They are a very good team.

I went to the semi final tonight and I am officially jealous of ISU. The fieldhouse was packed and I’d estimate it was 90%+ ISU fans. It was electric and ISU is a very good team. They very rarely force a stupid shot. Night and day between us and them right now. And I dont think Sparks alone is going to move the needle enough. We need some guards ASAP. Understand what you're saying but sometimes the quality of the shot depends a lot on the shooters. We could have taken those same shots and a lost that game by 20. ISU is fun to watch though. I wonder if that style of ball would be something Coach Lewis would want. I mean, I'm sure he's down with the winning part of it; just not sure he'd embrace the rest of it.

There's no doubt ISU got screwed by the NCAA selection committee, but the question is "Are they better off playing in the NIT?"
Not sure how the financials compare, but ISU has had a favorable NIT position. As one of the first four out of the NCAA they get an automatic No. 1 see in the NIT, which guaranteed them home games as long as they were winning until the final four. The NCAA sure would have dicked them by giving them a 11-12 seed. They might have made a run but likely no more than 1-2 games.

I’d rather win the NIT than be a first round exit like Drake was.

The home court plus Hinkle for finals is fabulous for their fans.
Great for the program.
Still. Can they keep coach and players? Another year maybe?

In three years, Schertz has won 11,23 and now 32 games going into the Final vs. Seton Hall. I watched the game as well and they have a great combination of shooters, drivers and of course Avila who can play inside or out. He's got a great stroke. Interesting that they don't have a roster full of high-profile transfers. Swope came from Southern Indiana, Bledson is a Juco, Conwell came from South Florida, Gray from Niagara and Kent from Bradley. 12-34 from the arc last night. Utah was 17-29 and lost! As previously noted, we need shooters and guards who can get into the lane. At least three of them.

Attention Coach Lewis as you pursue much needed backcourt help:
"Interesting that they don't have a roster full of high-profile transfers. Swope came from Southern Indiana, Bledson is a Juco, Conwell came from South Florida, Gray from Niagara and Kent from Bradley."
but hopefully such a notification is entirely unneeded.

I think Lewis felt he'd gotten that "not high profile" backcourt help in Bailey and Anderson. They did produce, just not consistently and for the most part not in big moments.
Discouraging right now with Basheer bailing, but if Lewis can turn it all into a positive we'll feel pretty good about things this time next year.

He did get two guys and while not as good as Sellers, he did well. He's obviously aware of the JUCO route, and was willing to grab a Euro. We have a grad transfer. He's not lacking in searching the right places for low cost upside. What we haven't seen is a D2 standout. RC mentioned guards as a priority, the low major level has some good athletes and players developed there. We can compete there, maybe not have to match Anderson offensively, but could get 2 for 1, get a PG and a 3 and D guy, give Lewis the job to fit pieces together as the ISU coach did. The HS ranks probably where you find somebody like Avila. If you see a player prove themselves at lower level college, they will not be under the radar. I would not criticize signing a big HS kid as we did with Doughty.

Internet chatter has Schertz going to St. Louis. It's so weird that he'd go to St. Louis over FAU or Louisville.

The home court plus Hinkle for finals is fabulous for their fans. Their fans will give ISU a home court feel for championship game. Seton Hall's players familiar with that environment though. Will be a tough game for Sycamores.

Internet chatter has Schertz going to St. Louis. I never got around to posting, but it was reported to be true back on March 20: "Adam Nelson (@hd_DirtKing) Worst kept secret in college basketball seems like a done deal. Everyone has been talking about Indiana State’s Josh Schertz to St. Louis for weeks now – sounds like St. Louis is just waiting for the Sycamores to get bounced from the NIT (or win the NIT) to make an official announcement. Stay tuned…"
