Pretty disheartening article in the SP today. Sparks might not even play in the tourney, Pearson is about "60%," Coleman injured his foot in the second half vs. EMU (he gets more of a pass for his play knowing that), Sellers is banged up, Jacobs is nursing an injury. Some of those things are because of games, some of those things are because we lack depth and they've had to be pushed really hard, and Lewis goes hard in practice. In short, the fantastic win against Kent may have been our last of the season. All we can do is hope Sparks can somehow play in Cleveland but it looks doubtful. If he can play he'd probably be pretty limited in what he could do. So then we have to hope all the other guys who're banged up can regroup for at least one game in the tourney and pull the first one out. An otherwise stellar season is headed toward a pretty disappointing finish and it's not really due to a collapse in play, it's due to injuries and fatigue. Can someone step up? Windham? Nah. Cleary? He has the athletic skills but not the basketball savvy yet. Bumb? We're playing with maybe 6 guys. None of us on this board saw this type of a season. I think many actually did. I went back and looked at the pre-season prediction thread and I think most of us expected to be about where we are. The variability with a first year head coach was higher. But I think we were a coach's poll preseason #4 and unless Ohio beats Kent it looks like that's where we're going to finish. |

If we win this with Bumb, Hendriks, and Cleary all getting minutes that’s a big win. I thought we might lose with our starting 5.

Was able to watch the post game press conference. Lewis brought Sellers & Bumbalough with him. I know there has been sporadic comments on these threads about concerns of us being able to keep Sellers. I watched Sellers whenever Coach was talking & he was usually nodding in agreement. Especially when Coach talked about easing up their practices before WMU & he will not make that mistake again. That this team wants to be pushed. My take is Sellers really likes playing for Lewis. I’ll be shocked if he even enters the portal. I noticed that as well. Same from Luke. Coach has given Luke props on multiple occasions for keeping a good attitude through his changed role. I don’t see any of our guys leaving unless they’re getting money offers at a blue blood. |

They're very balanced offensively. Really good at the 3 ball, Sparks is an inside presence, and guards that can drive and/or distribute. Lots of motion, hardly ever see anyone standing around. Defensively, they struggle against the 3, but otherwise are solid. Their biggest problem is consistent depth. Bumb had a great game last night, but hasn't shown that he can deliver that every game. If Cleary can play to his potential 90% of the time, that would be huge. Jihad has flashes of great play, and is having a much better season than last. Windham has some quality minutes and shoots 40% from anywhere, but was 0-fer last night. It just all came together last night, and made them a very dangerous team for the tournament. Yeah I think that's why coach was trying to rest the guys ahead of WMU. Ending @akron, Toledo, then hopefully three straight tourney games is ending on five straight "leave it all on the floor games" with no bench depth. |

Tonight was awesome but I’m still pretty deflated. We blew our best shot at the 1 seed in Kalamazoo against the worst team in the conference. Purely because we were sleepwalking. At this point it all comes down to the tournament, which cheapens our remaining games, even if we pull off some big wins in the process. At this point it all comes down to the tournament, but had they won at western they would have what? Gotten at large? No, had they won at western, it would have all come down to the tournament, possibly with a slightly different seed. Win at Western and win out and I think we’d be conference champs. Edit: I guess it maybe would come down to tiebreakers with Kent. I don't know how that works. |

Winning the regular season is what I was referring to. Not the 1 seed for seeding’s sake, but a conference championship.

Before going to the Western game, I had intended to go to this game - the Western game took all the air out of my balloon - now it’s back. Tonight was awesome but I’m still pretty deflated. I am making trip to Kzoo with the wife Saturday. I’ve been there once and there nightlife is great. Plan to hit the game and then Waldo Campus Tavern. Been to Kalamazoo Beer Exchange where your beer price fluctuates based on popularity. The last time I went, I think Ball State football got beat like 51-10. That was Coach Lembo’s least finest moment. Well, I hope you’re happy. |

How is hapless EMU getting all the prime time ESPNU Friday night MAC games on TV? It's not so much EMU, it's more the E. Bates NBA promotional tour that is being broadcast on Friday night prime time. And I would add, at the current rate, Bates isn't doing himself much good in becoming a 1st or even 2nd round NBA draftee. He’s a special player and I’ve gained a lot more respect for him over the season, but I’m dubious on his NBA prospects. |
