I heard a stat today and it made me think of this thread.. We have been talking about 20 win season for three years now. Did you guys know that on average with todays schedule 100-115 teams per year get to 20 wins. Are we wasting our breath and overvaluing a 20 win season. I believe it used to mean more than it does now. True. But for about 15 years we weren't winning 20 games. Or beating East teams with good programs over that time, or winning even a single MAC tourney game. Or beating a ranked team. Or winning 11 home games at this point in a season. Or getting as much time on ESPN highlights. Not saying that is the end of the story and we should not want much more. But it has some value to do those things. And whether too modest to be really proud of or not, we need not be ashamed of these teams. I am enjoying going to games and seeing these things happen, and seeing some of our players succeed after such a struggle to be better over the last 5 years. Hey, I am not seeing the clown Ronnie Thompson or being bored to tears by Billy Ball. Or for that matter seeing a demoralized Buckley struggle against the tide as we decline. Plus. If we were sitting here saying that is the best we can be it would be a different thing. And. Also. If it wasn't fairly likely we were doing better even as soon as next year.

Besides that Rob, you may be right it isn't as meaningful as it once was. But in today's game, as a football fan, in that sport ask yourself if we get into the top 1/3 of D1 football teams in wins, whether or not you will say we are overvaluing it, it is something to enjoy. I suspect we'll still complain we're not unbeaten in a weak conference, and naysayers will say we need to get back to having national ranking. Except those who say we should drop the sport.
Yet after suffering through some lean seasons, that meaningless eligibility to play in a meaningless bowl would be one hell of a lot better then than we have been doing. And I am hoping we can enjoy the improvement there, too.

That top 1/3 thing is kind of sketchy though yea we might be there win wise but we all know thats not the case. Yes 20 wins season are fun to talk about, as are bowl games that reward mediocrity. We just can not use them to say a season has been successful. Competing in and winning championships should be the benchmark

When you have sunk to the level of the 220-240 teams that perrenially fail to achieve 20 wins, you revert to the old days where 20 wins were valued.....even though you are NOW playing 33-35 games to achieve it.

Last year, teams with the following rankings won 20 or more games: 253, 218, 212, 211, 210, 209, 207, 201.
Teams ranked below 200 are bad teams.

20 wins is easily attainable anymore. We scheduled 20 the last couple years. And if your conference is bad its even more attainable.

I think Rusty was trying to say something but had some large object in his mouth.

So anyone want to change their prediction...only a minority of us 20 or more above!

We will be up and down. Road games are tough. Winning 3 at home very hard. I would not count those wins yet. Winning @akron a big one though.
Give me 3 or more, great! I'll celebrate with you. But we're not a team that can't lose to anyone we play...
This team has not had a game in foul trouble that could sink them against anyone. Or seen a team play really well, either.
What we have seen is play that bodes well for our future, as we add depth to the team coming back next year, and a chance to yet win some games we'll be proud of this year.

Geez don’t some of you ever have a positive take on anything? Take away those first 4 losses early this team has gone 17-5 that’s pretty f-ing good. This is a really good team. Quit you’re bitching and be happy. I have never seen so many doubters in my life this team has proven they are winners! With the loss of Hollywood and the suspensions of 2 vital players these kids have my utmost respect and support. That’s what they are is KIDS. Go Cards!

I agree with Rusty. The teams of 4 & 5 years ago are still very much in my memory. I think this team has accomplished some things already we can be happy with namely besides beating ND we finally ended losing streaks against Kent, Ohio & beating Akron there. I think this team can win the rest of their games. Let's get Toledo & go from there.
